The City of Whitehorse and the Government of Yukon are partnering once again to support Whitehorse residents to FireSmart their properties.
Following a successful program in 2025, residents clearing brush to FireSmart their properties can drop it off for free until October 31, at the Waste Management Facility.
Residents will need to bring the brush separate from other material, or a mixed load disposal fee will apply. Residents are asked to inform the attendants at the gate that their load is FireSmart brush.
This program does not apply to leaf and yard waste, grass clippings, commercial brush or materials from outside City limits.
The Government of Yukon is providing funding to cover disposal fees.
The Waste Management Facility is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekends.
In 2025, residents cleared and brought 217 tonnes of brush from their properties to the landfill, helping to protect homes and neighbourhoods from the impact of potential wildfires.
