Open burning permits

The open burning season in Whitehorse begins Thursday, October 1.

Residents are reminded that a permit is required for all open burning and sites may be subject to an inspection before a permit is issued. Properties must be a minimum of one acre to be eligible for a permit.

Three types of permits are available:

• Seasonal: Valid between October 1 – March 31, $110.
• 7 Days: Valid for 7 days after issue, $22. Application must include exact burn dates.
• Land Clearing: Valid on a per day basis, $110 each day. Application must include exact burn date(s).

Applicants can expect a follow-up within two business days of applying during regular business hours, 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Payment instructions from the City will follow once an application is approved. Applicants are required to provide proof of payment before a permit is issued.
