Whitehorse Mayor Kirk Cameron has issued the following statement:
“On behalf of City Council, I want to thank all of the staff at the City of Whitehorse as well as our residents and the contractors that have helped to clear snow on our roads, trails and sidewalks in response to record snowfall in recent weeks. I also want to thank the staff that have ensured services continued despite persistent frigid temperatures.
While many citizens were enjoying the holidays, City crews worked around the clock to address snowfall under challenging conditions, including snow clearing crews as well as our Bylaw Services team that ensures streets are clear of vehicles when they are scheduled for snow removal. Extreme cold temperatures also present equipment challenges and our maintenance crews did excellent work keeping our snow clearing equipment and Transit buses in operation seven days a week.
We greatly appreciate the effort of those who work to keep our roads and trails open and who ensure we can continue to provide the services that citizens rely on.
I also want to thank the citizens of Whitehorse for doing their part. Many of us help to clear sidewalks and pathways, support our neighbours with challenges in their driveways and adjacent sidewalks, and help our community so we can more easily navigate throughout our city during these challenging times.
We also appreciate your patience with City crews as they undertake their important work. Please drive carefully, pay attention to signs and give crews space so that they can complete their work safely.
Together we can keep our city safe and accessible this winter.”
