The City of Whitehorse has released a What We Heard report for proposed FireSmart bylaw and policy amendments.
The What We Heard report details the public feedback on proposed changes to the Zoning Bylaw, Maintenance Bylaw, Building and Plumbing Bylaw and the Tree Removal Policy to help reduce wildfire risk to Whitehorse properties.
The proposed amendments include requiring the use of deciduous trees in landscaping plans, prohibiting firewood within 1.5 m of homes during fire season, and allowing residents to apply for a permit to FireSmart public greenspace within 30 m of their property line.
The public engagement included two workshops and an online survey to get public feedback, which will inform the next steps.
Thank you to everyone who participated.
