The City of Whitehorse hosted a Whitehorse Builder’s Forum this week.
The Forum provided an opportunity to continue to strengthen the relationship between the local building community and the City of Whitehorse, address challenges and identify solutions to support development in Whitehorse.
Builders, contractors, suppliers, and other industry representatives, City staff, Government of Yukon staff, and officials from First Nation Development Corporations gathered to share information about permitting and inspection processes, local building requirements, lot availability and the future of development in Whitehorse as the population continues to grow.
Key themes that emerged from the Forum included the pressing need for land development to increase the supply of building lots, further refinements to the City’s e-permitting system, and the need for flexibility to support land development within the local context, including the limited building season.
The City shared its new Development Process Guide, a new reference document that guides individuals through the various steps of land and building development in Whitehorse.
The City wants to thank all those who participated in the Whitehorse Builder’s Forum for sharing their insights and continuing to work collaboratively with the City of Whitehorse to improve processes and support local development.
