Whitehorse named Yukon’s Most Active Community by ParticipACTION

            July 24, 2026

Whitehorse earned the title of Yukon’s Most Active Community in the seventh edition of the ParticipACTION Community Challenge. The national physical activity and sport initiative encourages people across Canada to get active in June.

As part of the ParticipACTION Community Challenge, the City of Whitehorse hosted 21 free community events, programs and initiatives that prioritized physical activity as well as sport and recreation, including Fridays in the Park, the Kids’ Triathlon, FIFA Canada Celebrates and Zumba in the Park.

As the winner of the ParticipACTION Community Challenge, Whitehorse will receive $5,000 to help expand free and accessible events and recreation programs in parks and public spaces throughout the city.

            Quote
“This recognition reflects the incredible community spirit of Whitehorse. Throughout June, residents, community groups, schools, and organizations came together to get active and show what makes our city such a vibrant place to live. We’re proud to be named Yukon’s Most Active Community and look forward to using this funding to create even more opportunities for people to connect, be active and enjoy our parks and public spaces.”

            – City of Whitehorse Mayor, Kirk Cameron
