Large Appliance Waste
Large appliances, often called white goods, range from refrigerators, microwaves, cook stoves, air conditioners, and more. The Whitehorse Waste Management Facility requires users to separate Large Appliance Waste from regular waste as their materials are recyclable. Loads mixed with large appliances are subject to unsorted load fees.
Also, when in a Landfill, they are bulky, taking up valuable space, and often releasing hazardous toxins. Many appliances used for cooling or freezing (fridges, freezers and air conditioning units) have toxic refrigerants which have the potential to cause harm to human health and environmental health when not handled or disposed of appropriately. When taken to the Whitehorse Waste Management Facility, special waste handlers remove the refrigerant and appliances are shipped south for recycling.
