The Whitehorse Winterval Santa Parade of Lights is happening on Friday, December 5.
The parade will begin at Shipyards Park at 6 p.m. and proceed south on Second Avenue to Black Street. It will move down Black Street towards Front Street and then proceed south along Front Street, ending at Main Street for the annual City of Whitehorse Christmas Tree lighting.
There will be road closures along these streets beginning at 5:45 p.m. and detours will be in place until the parade is over.
During the tree lighting, closures will be in place at:
- the 100 block of Main Street
- along Front Street from Steele Street to Elliott Street
Transit routes that normally run along Second Avenue will be detoured to Fourth Avenue during the parade. Transit riders can expect minor delays.
Parking in the area will be limited and part of the Shipyards Park parking lot will be closed for the parade. Residents planning to take in the event are encouraged to use Transit, carpool and take active transportation.
To help ensure public safety, there will be no parking on Front Street from Steele Street to Elliott Street or on Main Street from Second Avenue to Front Street beginning at 5:30 p.m. Parking will be permitted following the event.
Do not to park by Fire Hall #1 (Black Street or Front Street). Emergency vehicles need enough space to come and go from the station.
Other festive events will be taking place in December. Stay updated by visiting whitehorse.ca/events or follow the City’s social media accounts.
