2026 road maintenance work wraps up

The City is wrapping up road maintenance work for the 2026 season.

In addition to line painting and pothole repairs, approximately $3 million worth of improvements were made to many high-traffic areas in town, including Fourth Avenue, Whistle Bend Way, and the Hospital Road/Lewes Boulevard, Two Mile Hill/Range Road and Second Avenue/Quartz Road intersections.

This work is important to maintain transportation networks, improve safety, extend infrastructure life, and reduce long-term maintenance costs.

Projects this summer have improved conditions on some of the most heavily used roads in Whitehorse.

Road maintenance work is inherently disruptive but the City took steps to minimize impacts on residents and visitors as much as possible. This included scheduling work during off-peak times, overnight and on weekends, and completing all major projects before the start of the school year, when traffic picks up across the city.

The City recognizes that road maintenance is inconvenient for road users. Thank you to all the residents, businesses, and commuters for your patience and cooperation as we work to improve roads throughout Whitehorse.

While City paving projects are substantially complete for the 2026 season, residents may continue to see construction within Whitehorse as other projects and developments are underway. Please continue to follow signs and directions and give space so that crews can work safely.
