Paving scheduled at Second Avenue and Quartz Road

            August 14, 2026

The City’s contractor is scheduled to repave the intersection at Second Avenue and Quartz Road starting on Tuesday, August 18 until Sunday, August 23.

Work is scheduled between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. each day. During the night shift, the entire intersection will be closed, including right hand turns and slip lanes.

The intersection will reopen to normal traffic flow each morning at 7 a.m. except in the eastbound lane closest to Superstore. Due to the level of reconstruction work required, this section of the road will be reduced to single lane traffic throughout the project.

Access to Superstore and Big Bear Liquor Store will be limited to Second Avenue east of the intersection with Quartz Road and via 3rd Avenue while construction is in progress.

While construction is in progress, the following Transit stops will operate as normal until 7 p.m., at which time they will be temporarily closed for the remainder of the evening.

            • 2nd Avenue and Shipyards Park
            • Quartz Road and 2nd Avenue
            • Quartz Road and Chilkoot Way (Southbound)
            • Chilkoot Way (Eastbound)
            • Yukon Inn Plaza

Riders can use the TransLoc app to see where buses are in real-time.

Residents are advised to take alternative routes if possible and plan their travel accordingly.

Please travel with care, reduce speed, and follow traffic controllers and construction signage.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to improve the intersection before the school season gets underway.

For additional information, please contact Engineering Services at 867-668-8305 or [email protected].
