The goal of this year’s expanded Active Commute Month Challenge was to engage employers and schools throughout the city. A total of 54 teams competed in this year’s challenge, including 44 workplaces representing 19 employers, three secondary schools, and seven elementary schools.
More than 2,000 active and transit trips were logged throughout the month. Each Wednesday in May, the City hosted support stations along active transportation routes to give out snacks, high fives and encouragement to those commuting to school and work. A big thanks to the volunteers who helped at our support stations. We counted an average of 434 active commuters per week at the support stations.
A big shout out to everyone who participated in the Active Commute Month Challenge, part of the City’s Active Commute Whitehorse program. Thank you for helping shape a more connected, active Whitehorse. Let’s keep it going! Stay active and keep moving.
Thank you to our program partner, the Government of Yukon.
