The City has issued more than 900 building permits so far this construction season.
Between January 1 and July 31, 913 building permits were issued, an increase over previous years. Over the same time period, 735 permits were issued in 2025, and 656 in 2024.
As Whitehorse continues to grow, the City has taken several steps to make the building permit process more efficient in order to better support development.
The City’s new e-permitting system launched in 2025 and continues to be updated and improved based on feedback from the community. Additionally, new options such as foundation-only permits and remote inspections have been introduced to facilitate construction, bolstered by greater capacity to issue permits and conduct building inspections.
These improvements have allowed Building Services to meet the service level targets for building permits established by City Council in 2025.
More than 80% of building permit applications are processed and deemed as complete or incomplete within the time frames outlined in the Council-endorsed service standards.
Once processed, more than 98% of Building Permit decisions are issued in less time than mandated by the service standards.
The City will continue working with industry and stakeholders to provide efficient, responsive and transparent service to the building community.
