Canada Day celebrations are happening downtown on Wednesday, July 1.
The Whitehorse Legion is organizing a Canada Day parade. The parade will start at 11 a.m. at Sixth Avenue and Main Street and proceed down Main Street to Second Avenue, along Second Avenue to Ogilvie Street, and ending at Shipyards Park.
Starting at 10:30 a.m., Main Street will be closed from Sixth Avenue to Second Avenue, and Second Avenue will be closed from Main Street to Ray Street. All southbound traffic along Second Avenue will be detoured to Fourth Avenue via Ray Street.
Bylaw Services will assist with traffic control along the parade route. Emergency vehicles will be provided access in the event of an emergency.
For the duration of the parade, Transit routes on Second Avenue will be re-routed to temporary stops along Fourth Avenue. Riders may experience service delays throughout the day.
The Canada Day parade is a popular event. Residents are encouraged to consider carpool, take Transit or use active transportation.
Do not park in the parking lot of Fire Hall #1 or block the Black Street entrance. Emergency vehicles need enough space to safely come and go from the station.
