Escarpment update

We are now through the freshet season, which is historically the period of highest risk of activity along the escarpment.

The risk of slides remains but is generally determined to be low. The City’s geotechnical engineering team continues to monitor conditions closely. Small slides along Robert Service Way are expected and are well accommodated by the barriers in place. As monitoring continues, the City will take necessary steps to manage anticipated activity and protect public safety.

Seasonal work to clean up organic material built up behind the barricades along Robert Service Way is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 13. The roadway will remain open during this time, but drivers may experience minor delays as crews remove materials.

Please follow signage and traffic control and give crews space to work safely.

Sections of the East Airport Access Road Trail that were closed in April as a precautionary measure have now re-opened. whitehorse.ca/trails
