Preparations are underway for the annual pool maintenance at the Canada Games Centre.
This year’s maintenance is focused on the pool ventilation system and will be more extensive than in previous years. Initial preparation work identified more significant repairs than initially anticipated. As a result, the Whitehorse Lions Aquatic Centre is expected to be closed for up to 10 weeks starting in August.
All efforts are being made to minimize impacts on user groups and residents. Specific details about the dates of the pool closure are subject to contractor availability and will be shared as they are confirmed.
Staff are developing alternative fitness programming to accommodate CGC members. Members will also have the opportunity to pause their membership for the duration of the pool closure.
The CGC is entering its third decade of operation this year. Residents can expect ongoing maintenance work at the facility going forward. The City is committed to investing in the CGC to maintain existing service levels and ensure the facility can continue to provide high-quality recreational opportunities for residents and user groups for decades to come.
