A proposed amendment to the City’s Official Community Plan (OCP) to enable limited forms of Mineral Exploration within select areas currently designated as Greenspace is being considered by City Council.
On August 10, City Council approved a revision to the proposed amendment to reduce an area that would be redesignated from Greenspace to Future Planning.
The revision provides for a larger buffer between proposed Mineral Exploration work and Mary Lake.
While the proposed amendment has been revised, no decision has been made about whether to adopt the proposed amendment.
The City is currently accepting public input on the proposed amendment and a Public Hearing has been scheduled for Monday, August 24 at City Hall.
Please note:
- residents can provide input at any time up until the Public Hearing is closed on August 24 by emailing [email protected].
- It is not necessary to participate in person at the Public Hearing to have your input considered.
- All input received, whether in-person or via written submission, is given equal weight in the public input process.
- The Public Hearing is expected to have a large attendance, and seating is limited in Council Chambers.
- If you have any questions about providing input during this process, please contact Legislative Services at [email protected].
The City’s Official Community Plan is subject to modification as per sections 16.3-16.8. The proposed amendment currently before Council is the sixth proposed amendment since the Whitehorse 2040 Official Community Plan was adopted in 2023.
