Getting ready to host a large event or public gathering?
Having the required building permits for temporary structures at your event can help things run smoothly by making sure safety measures are in place ahead of the event.
A building permit is typically required for anyone planning to have a tent, stage or other type of temporary structure at their gathering.
Building permits are required for:
- Individual or groups of temporary buildings, such as tents, warm up shelters or greenhouses, that are greater than 12 square meters
- Stages higher than 600 mm above grade
Permits are issued on a first-come, first-served basis.
An occupancy inspection will be done after set-up with a final inspection after the structure has been removed.
Temporary building permits are $180 with a $500 refundable deposit.
Structures can not be set up until a permit is issued. If work on the structure begins ahead of the permit being issued, a surcharge may apply.
