            Active Commute Month results

            June 9, 2026

Whitehorse knows how to get moving!

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in Active Commute Month 2026.

Throughout May, participants walked, biked, rolled, carpooled, and took transit to earn points, build healthy habits, and help create a more sustainable community.

            This year’s winning teams are:

            • School: Garvie Classroom – Dámbü Tän Kets’ádań Kų̀ – Cliff Trail Elementary School
            • Individual – Monkeycat
            • Public sector employer: Bidirectional Bike Lane Bandits – City of Whitehorse
            • Business employer: Hvactech Systems Inc.
            • NGO: Active CDC – Child Development Centre

Honourable mentions for largest team size:

            • School: Les Grizzlis actifs de EET – École Émilie-Tremblay – 53 members
            • Public Sector employers: What’s that, Habitat! – Yukon Government – 17 members
            • Business employer: Stantec – 18 members
            • NGO: AFY Cyclo Cool! – L’Association Franco-Yukonnaise – 10 members

            Congratulations to all the winners!

Each winning team will receive a unique trophy handcrafted by local artist Leslie Leong. These trophies are made from salvaged and recycled materials, including bike cables and gears, a support post offcut and repurposed cutlery, all fused with welding beads.

Participation in the Active Commute Month Challenge surged in 2026, with 593 participants across 123 teams, more than double last year’s total. This included 12 schools, 74 individual, 7 business, 7 NGOs, and 23 government teams.

In total, participants travelled approximately 67,724 kilometres using active and shared transportation, avoiding the emission of 14.6 tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

A big thanks to the volunteers who helped give out snacks, high fives and encouragement at the support stations each Wednesday in May. We counted an average of 774 active commuters per week at the support stations, up from 434 last year.

The Active Commute Month Challenge is part of the City’s Active Commute Whitehorse program. Thank you to all the participants and volunteers for helping shape a more connected, active Whitehorse. Let’s keep moving more and driving less, Whitehorse.

Your feedback was important when we planned this year’s challenge – and we welcome your thoughts on making the experience even better for participants in 2027.

Take our survey to share your thoughts: Active Commute Month Survey.

Thank you to our program partner, the Government of Yukon.
