Changes are coming to how certain Household Hazardous Waste is dealt with in Whitehorse.
Interchange Recycling, a new entity under the Government of Yukon’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program, will take over responsibility for waste oil, antifreeze, Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), automotive containers and oil filters beginning Friday, August 1.
KBL Environmental will operate a new collection site for these items at the City’s Waste Management Facility on behalf of Interchange Recycling.
Residents can bring these items to the new collection site Monday and Thursday and the first Saturday of every month, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. The facility will be closed on statutory holidays.
Commercial users should contact KBL directly at 334-3455 to arrange for drop-off or pick-up.
As of August 1, waste oil, antifreeze, DEF, automotive containers and oil filters will no longer be accepted through the City’s Household Hazardous Waste disposal program. All other Household Hazardous Waste currently accepted at the Waste Management Facility will continue to be accepted free every Saturday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. until other EPR programs begin for hazardous and special products.
