Emergency Preparedness Week is May 3 to 9.
To mark this national awareness initiative, the City of Whitehorse will be highlighting resources available to help residents prepare for emergencies and launching an emergency kit giveaway.
Residents are encouraged to know the risks about where they live and learn what they can do to protect themselves and their households. Wildfires, floods, severe weather, and power/telecommunications outages are among the hazards in Whitehorse.
During an emergency, it’s important to stay calm and act quickly to keep yourself and others safe.
Listen to instructions provided by official sources, follow an emergency plan, ensure your safety by following the instructions from official sources, and, if possible, check on your neighbours once your household is safe.
Local radio stations will broadcast information from official sources in the event of an emergency.
