FireSmart work is resuming this week along Robert Service Way, across from the Robert Service Campground.
The work will see tree branches and other organic material, which had been hidden under snow through the winter, removed. Chipping will happen on site before the material is disposed of at the City’s Waste Management Facility.
This follows tree removal work at the site over the winter.
Fuel management projects such as this help reduce the potential for wildfire intensity.
Homeowners can apply the same techniques to help protect their own property:
- Minimize evergreen vegetation within 10 metres of the home
- Remove evergreen branches on trees within 2 m of the ground
- Clean up debris on the ground, such as leaf piles, pine cone accumulations, and fallen branches.
