A memorial ride in honour of cyclist Joe Morrison will take place this evening at 7 p.m. The ride will begin at Holy Family Elementary School and end at the Canada Games Centre.
Cyclists will ride along Wann Road, the Alaska Highway and the Hamilton Boulevard multi-use trail.
The Alaska Highway will be temporarily closed to motor vehicle traffic during the ride, with a pilot and sweep vehicle escorting cyclists.
Due to the planned closure of the Alaska Highway for the Joe Morrison Memorial Ride event, Route 202 will not be in service after 7 p.m. Transit stops at Sumanik Drive, Kopper King, and the Alaska Highway at Two Mile Hill will not be serviced after 7 p.m.
An additional Route 201 bus will be in service to support the area. Transit users can use the TransLoc app for real-time updates on status of buses.
Drivers are asked to use caution and expect increased cyclist activity along the route. Bylaw Services and the territory’s Carrier Compliance branch will be present to assist with traffic control.
Participating cyclists will gather at Holy Family Elementary School at 6:30 p.m. ahead of the ride for a safety and logistics overview.
