To support a safer transportation system, the City is developing a Vision Zero Policy and a Safe Mobility Action Plan.
The plan will identify actions to reduce transportation-related injuries and fatalities throughout Whitehorse’s transportation system. This work will build on the City’s Transportation Master Plan, which includes a target to eliminate fatalities and serious injuries from Whitehorse’s transportation network by 2040. It is also intended to complement existing initiatives to improve road safety focused on traffic calming and speed reduction.
The goals of the Vision Zero Policy and the Safe Mobility Action Plan are to:
- Develop a vision, guiding principles, and targets for safe mobility in Whitehorse.
- Collect and analyze data to understand local collision trends and concerns.
- Develop key focus areas and actions to reduce fatalities and serious injuries, informed by data and input from the community.
- Empower the community and residents to make positive change in safety culture.
Community engagement is vital to achieving these goals and the City is seeking public input into the plan.
Join staff from our Engineering Services Department and industry experts to discuss the plan and share your thoughts at a webinar on Wednesday, June 25 from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
