The newest school in the city – Whistle Bend Elementary School – will open August 27 and residents are reminded of the safety measures in place to keep students and commuters safe.
A 30 kilometre per hour speed limit is in place along Olive May Way and Casca Boulevard.
Those taking students to school or picking them up are asked to use the dedicated drop off area at the school. It is the safest area for drop-offs and pick-ups.
A bike lane is in place along Casca Boulevard for cyclists and should not be used by drivers.
Other schools in Whitehorse also begin classes on or around August 27. Commuters are reminded to follow the rules of the road, be cautious and allow for extra travel time.
Students using Whitehorse Transit are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new transit schedules so they can successfully get to and from school. See routes and schedules at Whitehorse.ca/transit.
By following these safety measures, we can make the roads safer for all as students head back to school.
