Work to the City’s sanitary sewer system will be underway in several downtown locations throughout the summer.
The work is part of the City’s continued efforts to maintain reliable sewer service, extend the life of aging infrastructure, and reduce the need for future disruptive excavation.
Construction will be happening throughout the summer and is expected to finish in August.
A repair method will be used which allows work to be done on aging pipes without excavating. A flexible liner is inserted through a manhole. It is then expanded and cured into place to form a seamless pipe inside the older pipe. This minimizes disruptions as there is no need for extensive excavation.
Work is anticipated at the following areas:
- Second Avenue between Jarvis Street and Keish Street, and between Ogilvie Street and Shipyards Park
- Third Avenue between Ray Street and Ogilvie Street
- Fourth Avenue near Ogilvie Street
- Ogilvie Street between Fifth Avenue and Front Street
- Black Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue
- Strickland Street near Second Avenue
This technology minimizes long-term disruption. Some impacts are expected including temporary sewer and water shut-offs or restrictions, minor traffic changes such as detours and lane changes, and noise and potential odour.
The City will work closely with impacted business owners to help accommodate customer access, delivery and loading areas, and provide safe pedestrian routes. Signage will be in place.
Businesses with specific questions are encouraged to contact Engineering Services at [email protected].
When work begins, road users are asked to slow down, exercise caution and follow signage in work zones. We appreciate the public’s patience.
