Parks maintains and floods 30 outdoor rinks in Whitehorse, working closely with neighbourhood representatives. Our rinks range in size – some have snowbank sides and other have full board systems and night lighting.
Outdoor rinks are available to everyone, including groups, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Outdoor rinks are not available to rent.
Every fall, neighbourhood representatives submit applications to have the rink in their area activated for the upcoming winter.
Want to be a beloved volunteer and get involved with your local rink? Neighbourhood reps are always looking for volunteers to help clear the snow to get the rinks ready for flooding. Contact our Parks team at [email protected] and they can direct you to your neighbourhood rep.
Would you like to have an outdoor skating rink in your neighbourhood?
Commitment
Obtain a commitment from other people in your neighbourhood who are willing to help prepare, and maintain the outdoor rink throughout the season. Identify a rink contact person for the application; this person is responsible for coordinating snow clearing of the rink as per the weekly flooding schedule.
Funding
The City offers financial assistance through Recreation Grants to encourage volunteer community groups, and organizations to further improve and develop recreation opportunities for Whitehorse residents.

Dirt n’ Soul Mountain Bike Skills Park
Operating hours are sunup to sundown during the summer.
Located in the Mount McIntyre Recreation area, the park is the ideal environment for both learning and progressing skills on two wheels. Tabletop jumps, skinnies, teeter totters, wall rides and drops…this park has enough thrills to keep all ages and abilities challenged!
Dirt n’ Soul is co-managed by Contagious Mountain Bike Club and the City of Whitehorse. Helmets are mandatory.
The Willow Track – Wolf Creek Pump Track Bike Park
The Willow Track is a pump track designed to be used by bicycles. It is located at the intersection of Cronkhite Road and Dawson Road in the Wolf Creek subdivision.
A pump track is a continuous track that is ridden without pedaling. Speed is created by “pumping” over smooth rollers and through steep berms. The surface of the track is constructed out of dirt and includes wood-built obstacles.
Winze Park Pump Track
The Winze Pump Track officially opened in September 2023. The pump track is located on Winze Lane in Copper Ridge.
This project is supported by Infrastructure Canada Canada Community-Building Fund.
The City is taking steps to keep the Dirt n’ Soul Bike Park at the Mount McIntyre Recreation Area safe and enjoyable for riders.
As part of this work, the dirt jumps and progressive drop features will be removed due to safety concerns on Friday, October 9, 2026. The park will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to accommodate this work.
What safety concerns prompted the removal, and has a risk assessment been conducted?
The removal of these features is based on the City’s responsibility to exercise due diligence in managing public safety. Bike park features are regularly inspected and assessed as part of an ongoing condition assessment program. These inspections have identified deteriorating conditions and safety concerns associated with several aging features.
For the progressive drops, the structures are now approximately 16 years old and many wood components are nearing the end of their service life. City staff assessed the condition and structural integrity of these features and determined that replacement is warranted due to wear, deterioration, and associated safety risks.
For the jump line, the primary concern is the original alignment and design. The jumps are located on a slope that creates increasing rider speed from one jump to the next, requiring braking between features rather than providing a predictable and controlled progression. These risks cannot be adequately addressed through maintenance alone and would require realignment or relocation of the jump line.
What evidence supports the decision, and was it driven by safety concerns or liability concerns?
The decision was informed by regular inspections, condition assessments, and evaluation of the features’ design and condition. The City’s review identified both safety and liability concerns.
Liability considerations are directly connected to the City’s obligation to address known hazards once they are identified. The decision was not based solely on liability concerns, but rather on the responsibility to proactively manage risks associated with aging infrastructure and feature designs that no longer meet current safety expectations.
The City does not track injury statistics and uses infrastructure condition based decisions. The rationale is based on the observed condition of the structures and the identified safety risks associated with their design and age.
Will the removed features be replaced, and what is the timeline?
Yes, the features will be replaced.
The City plans to engage with the mountain bike community to discuss options for replacement features in 2027.
Future designs will consider current best practices, rider feedback, and risk management principles. Potential improvements could include wider structures, enhanced feature geometry, and the addition of catch ramps or other design elements that help reduce the consequences of rider error while maintaining an enjoyable riding experience.
At this stage, replacement concepts have not yet been finalized, and a construction timeline has not been established. The City is aiming to have the replacement features in place for the start of the 2027 riding season. The priority is to complete community engagement and develop replacement designs that are safe, sustainable, and supported by the mountain bike community.
Located along the Millennium Trail in Riverdale, this 31,000 square foot concrete surface skatepark is inclusive to all wheeled, non-motorized activities, and designed for accessibility.
