Active Yukon After School Club

Active Yukon After School is delivered in partnership with the Yukon Government Sport and Recreation Department to provide free, barrier-reducing outdoor programming for children who may be less active after school.
Led by trained, positive adult role models, the program focuses on creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for participants. Programming takes place at or near the registered school, with sign-in and sign-out occurring at the school. We work in partnership with each school to determine which grade levels are eligible to participate.
Active Yukon After School is an outdoor program based on school grounds, designed to build physical literacy and support children in becoming confident, lifelong movers. Our programming offers a balance of structured and unstructured play. Structured activities are staff-led games that encourage group participation, skill development, and teamwork. Unstructured play allows participants to take the lead by choosing their own games, equipment, and play areas within staff-set boundaries which supports independence, creativity, and social development. A participant’s voice is an important part of our program. At the start of each session, we gather input from participants on the types of activities they are interested in, helping us tailor programming to their interests and needs. Activities may include tag variations, team challenges, cooperative games, and sports-inspired play, all adapted to be age and developmentally appropriate for each group.
Activity Leaders are selected for their playfulness, creativity, curiosity, and belief in the lasting positive impact recreation programs can have on a child’s life. Staff bring diverse backgrounds and skills to the camp experience and work collaboratively to create an environment where each participant feels welcome, supported, and celebrated for their individuality.
Please ensure your child has the following items each day and that everything is labelled:
- Outdoor clothing suitable for seasonal weather (This program will be outdoors, in all weather)
- Water bottle
- Everything you are bringing home from school for the day
- All individuals picking up a participant must present valid photo ID and be listed on the authorized pick-up list provided during registration.
- Participants will only be released to individuals identified on the authorized pick-up list.
- Parents/guardians may grant permission for their child to self-sign out through the registration questionnaire.
- Participants approved for self-sign-out will be released at 4:30 p.m.
- All participants must be signed out by 4:30 p.m.
- Late sign-outs may result in removal from the program.
If your child will not be attending, please email or call us by 2:30 pm so we can plan accordingly.
While the After School Program is offered at no cost, families are asked to notify us as soon as possible if they wish to withdraw their child from the program. This allows us to offer the space to a child on the waitlist.
