Waste Management Facility
The Waste Management Facility (WMF) is located 3.5 km north of the Two Mile Hill and Alaska Highway intersection. Find the turn-off on Google Maps. The WMF includes the landfill, compost facility, and transfer station. We accept the following waste at the WMF:
- Household garbage and organic waste
- Large appliances and bulky items such as furniture
- Tires
- Clean wood and brush
- Concrete, metals, and construction waste
- Household hazardous waste
Recyclable packaging and paper products are not accepted at the WMF:
- Residential recycling is managed by Circular Materials, a non-profit producer responsibility organization operating under Yukonโs Extended Producer Responsibility Regulation (EPR). For more information on residential recycling visit Circular Materials.
- Commercial recycling is accepted at Raven ReCentre. Visit ravenrecentre.org for more information.
Until October 31, anyone FireSmarting their property can drop brush off for free.

Weekends: 9 am to 5:30 pm
Closed: Good Friday, Christmas Day, New Yearโs Day

Banned Waste

Residents can dispose of their household hazardous waste (HHW) for free at the Waste Management Facility (WMF). There are two locations within the WMF to drop off your HHW.
Batteries can be dropped off at a variety of locations in Whitehorse. Visit recycleyourbatteries.ca for details.
New tipping fees are in effect at the WMF as of April 1. Residents can continue to dispose of their household hazardous waste for free, if brought to the WMF separately, at the times and days specified below.
KBL Environmental HHW Drop-Off
Mondays, Thursdays, and the first Saturday of each month
9 am to 4 pm

Dropped off material should be properly labeled and identifiable. Commercial hazardous waste is not accepted and regular tipping fees apply for all non-HHW waste.

Clean-up Days were May 16 to 20 and December 26, 2024
During Clean-up Days, residential tipping fees are waived on these sorted items:
- Garbage
- Food and yard waste
- Construction and demo waste
- Mattresses and box-springs
Fees are waived on loads from a car, pick-up truck or small utility trailer.
Tipping fees still apply for metals, appliances, and all commercial loads. E-waste should be taken to Raven ReCentre. This includes TVs, computer equipment, fax machines, copy equipment, etc.
The City’s compost facility has been producing a superior product and defying beliefs that compost north of 60 is difficult or even impossible. Our compost meets the Organic Materials review Institue (OMRI) standard, making it approved for use in organic operations.
